# Auto Translation Overview

The Auto Translation is an optional add-on feature provided by Regroup. You can use this to translate the messages you send from English to the recipient’s preferred language. You can also use Auto Translation to translate text to speech messages. You cannot use this to translate the language of your application interface.

**Note**: Auto Translation is a paid add-on. You can contact Regroup to enable it.

To start using auto-translation you must do the following:

1. Contact Regroup to enable the Auto Translation add-on.
2. [Activate the add-on](https://docs.regroup.com/docs/activate-or-disable-the-auto-translation-add-on/).
3. Ensure that the recipients have selected their preferred language.
   
   **Note**: The recipients or admins can choose the preferred language in the Edit Contact Profile \>Contact Information page. See step 10 of the topic [Update Contact Profile.](https://docs.regroup.com/docs/update-contact-profile/)
4. If required, you can set auto-translation as a message default for your organization. When it is defaulted, the Auto-Translation checkbox appears enabled in the New Message, Quick Message, and Message Template pages; admins can turn it off while sending messages. 5. To enable the translation of a message you are sending,[click and enable the auto-translation check box on the Post New Message page.](https://docs.regroup.com/docs/send-messages-with-auto-translation/)
6. If required, [de-activate the auto-translation](https://docs.regroup.com/docs/activate-or-disable-the-auto-translation-add-on/) add-on.

The translated message has a 10,000-character limit. The messages might fail if the limit is crossed. You must keep your messages short to make the translations clear in every language.
