Create New Roles with Custom Permissions

Overview

Roles define what administrative tasks a user can perform within the platform. By creating custom roles, you can precisely control access to organization, channel, or group functions based on operational needs. This approach supports least-privilege access while allowing flexibility in administrative responsibilities.

An admin can be assigned multiple roles if access is required across different role types (for example, Channels and Groups). Organization Admin roles can also be customized to align with internal governance requirements.

Create a New Role

  1. Open Organization Settings.

  2. Select Admins & Roles from the left navigation.

  3. Scroll to the Roles section and select New Role.

  4. Enter a clear and descriptive name in the Role Name field.

  5. Select a Role Type.

    • Role types define the resource scope, such as Organization, Channels, or Groups, where the admin can perform actions.

  6. Select the required permissions.

    • Only permissions applicable to the selected role type are displayed.

  7. Select Save to create the role.

A confirmation message confirms that the role has been created successfully.

Permission Behavior Notes
  • Selecting Organization Admin as the role type automatically enables all available task permissions.

  • Permissions for non-organization roles can be adjusted individually using the permissions grid.

  • To further refine permissions after role creation, refer to Customizing Role Permissions.
