Channel and Group Member Management via CSV Import

Overview

The CSV import feature allows administrators to add members to channels and groups in bulk. Using a single CSV file, you can assign existing or new users as contacts, subscribers, or administrators, based on defined user types. This method streamlines large-scale membership management while ensuring consistent role assignment.

Administrators can import members only into channels and groups to which they already have access. After submission, all imports and their statuses are tracked in the Import Log.

Supported User Types

Use the usertype field in the CSV to define each member’s role:

  • contact
Adds the user as a contact to a group or as a subscriber to a channel.
  • admin
Adds the user as an administrator to the specified group or channel.
  • admin|contact
Adds the user as both an administrator and contact for groups, or as an administrator and subscriber for channels.

Import Members Using the Web UI

  1. Open the Channels tab.

  2. Select Import from the left navigation panel.

  3. Download the example CSV file, if needed.

  4. Populate the CSV with the members you want to import.

For required fields and formatting rules, see Populate CSV for Recipient Import with Correct Syntax.

  5. Upload the completed CSV file.

  6. Optionally, enable the welcome message for imported members.

  7. In the Map Your Data section, review the detected CSV headers.

Note: If the first row of your CSV contains column headers, enable the option to skip importing the first row.

  8. Assign each CSV column to the appropriate contact attribute.

  9. Complete mapping for all required fields.

  10. Select Add to submit the import.

The system processes each record based on the processing style configured for the destination channel or group.

Import Status and Logs

After submission, import activity appears in the Import Log tab. Each uploaded file includes detailed processing results. Opening the file displays a status column that indicates whether each member was successfully imported or encountered an error.

Notes

  • The processing style of the destination channel or group determines how imported members are handled.

  • Only administrators who initiated the import can view its detailed results.
