# Send Geofence Messages

You can send geofence messages to groups and individual contacts in the new message segment. You can configure entering, exiting and inside messages for a marked geographic location. The contacts in the selected groups receive the notifications based on their proximity to the selected location. You can also add recipients from the map based on the contacts’ current location recorded in the profile.

**Tip**: This topic contains all the actions you can do while sending a geofence message. You can skip the generic message-sending steps and perform the geofencing steps from step 6 onwards. 

Here is how you send geofence messages:

1. Click **New Message** button. See the following image:

   The post new message page opens.
2. In the **Message Type** dropdown, select **Geofence Messages**.
   
   The following image shows the message type dropdown and geofence messages options:

   You can also select a geofence message directly from the **New Message** dropdown.

   The **Post New Message** page opens with the message type you selected.
3. To add recipients as groups or individuals: 
   
     1. Click the **Click to Select Group** dropdown and select the required groups.
        
        **Note**: You cannot send geofencing messages to channels. You can add multiple groups at a time.
     2. Click the **Add an individual** field to add contacts as recipients.
     3. Click the **Send to all contacts in Organization** check box to send the message to any contact in your organization when they enter the geofence area.
     4. You can click the **Exclude recipient from the selected group/channel** checkbox and choose the contacts who shouldn’t receive this message.
4. To define the geofence region:
   
     1. Click the **Select recipients via map** button.
        
        The **Choose Recipient via Map** dialog appears, providing an interactive map to help you select recipients based on location. You can search for a specific place and define a target area by drawing a shape—such as a circle, polygon, or freehand region directly on the map. All users within the selected area will receive the geofence notification.
        
        **Note**: The location provided by the system may not always be precise. Several factors can influence the accuracy of location data, including:
        
            - **Device settings and permissions**: If location services are disabled, restricted, or set to approximate location, the system may not be able to determine an exact position.
            - **Operating system behaviour**: Different operating systems and versions handle location detection differently, which can impact consistency and precision.
            - **Network connectivity**: Location may be derived from Wi-Fi networks, IP addresses, or cellular data. Weak signals, VPN usage, or limited connectivity can reduce accuracy.
            - **Environmental conditions**: Physical surroundings such as buildings, indoor locations, or remote areas can interfere with GPS signals and affect accuracy.
              
              You can also specify a radius (in miles) to quickly create a circular region. If needed, you can choose from an existing region or create a new one.

              To draw a map region:
            - In the map, search and find the desired location. You can enter the address or place in the **Find address or place field** to search for a specific location.

            - Click one of the following shape options to define the region: **Draw Polygon**, **Draw Freehand**, or **Draw Circle**.

                    - **Draw Polygon**: Use this option to define a custom-shaped region on the map. After selecting **Draw Polygon**, click on the map to set the first point. Move the cursor to the next location and click again to add another point. Continue clicking to connect multiple points and form the desired polygon shape. Once the shape is complete, double-click anywhere on the map to finish and confirm the region.
                    - **Draw Circle**: Use this option to define a circular region on the map. After selecting **Draw Circle**, specify the desired radius (in miles). Then, click on the map at the location where you want to center the circle. The region will be created as a circle based on the specified radius.
                      
                      If no radius is provided, a default radius of 10 miles is applied.
                    - **Draw Freehand**: Use this option to define a custom freehand region on the map. After selecting **Draw Freehand**, click and hold the mouse button on the map, then move the cursor to draw the desired shape. Once you have completed the shape, release the mouse button to create the region.
            - If you want to save a defined region, enter a name in the **Region Name** field and click **Save Region**. Once saved, you can select it from the **Select Map Region** dropdown whenever needed.
              
              **Note**: You can use a saved region for geofence messaging only if it is marked in a circle.

            - Optionally, click the **Include Contacts and Group Members with an Address within Map Region** checkbox to add the contacts in the selected region as recipients to the message.
            - Click **Save** to save the selected geofence region
              
              The selected geofence region now appears on the New Geofence Message page.
5. You can click the **Edit Selection** button to edit the region. See the following image:

6. In the **Geofencing Settings**, set up geofence messaging:
   
     1. Enter the number of minutes, hours or days you want to enable geofence monitoring in the **Duration for geofence monitoring** field.
     2. Click the **Select Unit** dropdown to select the unit of the duration entered, such as minutes, hours or day.
     3. Click the **Send messages upon following events** dropdown to select when the system should send the messages. The following are the options:
        
            - **Upon Entering**: Send a message to contacts when they enter the geofence region.
            - **Upon Leaving**: Send a message to contacts when they exit the geofence region.
            - **Inside**: Send a message to contacts when inside the geofence region.

7. In the **Delivery Method** section, to add delivery methods:
   
     1. Click the required delivery methods. See the following image:

        If you choose SMS and Email as the delivery method, you can specify the phone and email types. By default, the email type is set as both - primary and secondary. All the phone types are selected for phones type.
     2. Click the **Auto-Retry SMS** to enable resending SMS when one attempt is failed.
     3. You can choose the **Interval** and **Duration** for the retry.
     4. You can select when to stop the retry in the **Auto-Retry Stops After** field.

8. In the **Sender Profile** section, you can choose a predefined sender profile or define a custom sender profile:
   
     1. Click **Use Predefined Sender Profile** to select an already defined sender profile from the **Choose Sender Profile** dropdown.
        
        **Note**: If the mandatory sender profile is set for the organization, you cannot define or use a sender profile.

1. 1. To view the profile details, click **Show Profile Info**.
     2. Click **Define Custom Sender Profile** to create a new sender profile. See the topic [Create Sender Profiles](https://docs.regroup.com/docs/create-sender-profiles/) to create a sender profile.
2. To compose message content:
   
     1. To use a predefined message template, click the **Choose Message Template** dropdown and select a template.  
        
        The selected template gets populated on the **Message Content** section. You can review the template content, update as required and click **Send Now** to send the message directly.
     2. If you’re not using a template, enter a message subject line in the Message Title field to create a new message body.
     3. The **Use as email subject line** checkbox, enabled by default, allows using the message title as the email subject line. You can click to disable it.
     4. If disabled, enter the subject line in the **Email Subject Line** field.
     5. To create a separate message content for each delivery method, click the **Custom content for each delivery method** checkbox.
     6. To create a separate message content for each geofencing event type, click the **Custom content for each Geofencing event type** checkbox.

     7. If you have enabled custom content for each geofencing event type checkbox, click each event type and compose the message.

     8. Click the **Include** **Link to Full Post in SMS/text Message** to allow recipients to access the full post from the text message.
     9. With the delivery method **Call (TTS/Voice)**,you can send a text-to-speech message and upload or record a voice clip. You can request a call to record your voice or upload the voice clip. 3. To attach a file to your message, click **Browse** and upload a file from your computer.
4. To save the message body as a template:
   
     1. Click the **Save message body as a template for future use** checkbox.

        The Save as Template page opens.
     2. Enter a name to the template in the **Template Title** field.
     3. To share it with anyone, select from the three following options: 
        
            - **Only Creator**: Only the creator of this message can access this template.
            - **All admins:**  share with all the admins in your organization.
            - Select **Groups or Channels or Individual Admins**:  Share with the admins of your choice.
     4. Click **Save**.
        
        A message confirms the creation of the template.
5. You can click the **This is Urgent** checkbox to send the message irrespective of the contact’s quiet hour or do not disturb settings.
6. To schedule sending the message at a specific time:
   
     1. Click the **Schedule for later** checkbox.

        The schedule for later pop-up opens.
     2. Click the **Select Date** dropdown and select the date the message should be sent.
     3. Click the **Select time** dropdown to select when the message should be sent.
     4. Click the **Time Zone** dropdown to select the time zone.
     5. Click the **Recurring** checkbox to set a frequency for sending the message. The following image highlights the recurring checkbox on the schedule message for later pop-up:

     6. Enter the frequency and period in the **Repeat Every** field.
     7. Enter when the repetition should stop by clicking:
        
            - **Never**: The message sending always recurs.
            - **One**: The recurrence of the message stops on the selected date.
            - **After**: The recurrence of the message stops after the selected number of occurrences.
     8. Click **Save**. 
        
        You get a confirmation message confirming sending the message.
7. You can click **Preview** to view how the message appears for the recipient.
8. Click **Send Now** to send the message instantly.

Contacts must install the Regroup Mobile app, log on to the app and enable the location settings to receive geofence messages. Background tracking tracks your location only while a geofence message is active. Regroup does not track your fitness or personal information. When contacts disable the background location access, they cannot receive geofence messages.
