# Set Up a Map Region or Location
A map region represents an area marked on a map in any shape. You can upload a map region using the geoJSON files or draw it on the map using predefined shapes or freehand. You can upload list of location to Regroup using this facility.

**Note**: For [geofencing messaging](https://docs.regroup.com/docs/geofence-messaging-overview/), the map regions must be in a circular shape.
Here is how you set up the map region:
1. Click the **Channels** dropdown and select **Map Regions**.

Otherwise, you can click **Channels** tab, then click **Map Regions** under the **Templates** section on the left navigation panel.
The **Map Regions** page opens.
2. Click **+New Map Region** on the top right.
The **New Map Region** page opens.
3. Enter a name for the map region in the **Region Name** field. See the following image:
4. To upload the map region, you must create a GeoJSON file. To create the GeoJSON file, see the topic: [Create GeoJSON File to Upload Map Region](https://docs.regroup.com/docs/creating-geojson-file-type-to-upload-map-region/). Here is how to upload:
1. Click **Upload** **Files**. See the following image:
2. Select the GeoJSON file from your computer.
3. The map region marked in the file gets populated on the map.
5. To draw the location on the map:
1. Click the **Find Address or Place** field to search for the required location. See the following image:
2. Click the draw options and click the map as follows:
- **Draw Polygon**: click at a point on the map and repeat clicking at locations that mark the edge of the polygon.
- **Draw Freehand**: Click and hold the cursor to draw the required shape.
- **Draw Circle**: Enter a value in miles in the **Insert Circle Radius in Miles** field \> click on a point in the map that marks the circle's center.
**Note**: The location provided by the system may not always be precise. Several factors can influence the accuracy of location data, including:
- **Device settings and permissions**: If location services are disabled, restricted, or set to approximate location, the system may not be able to determine an exact position.
- **Operating system behaviour**: Different operating systems and versions handle location detection differently, which can impact consistency and precision.
- **Network connectivity**: Location may be derived from Wi-Fi networks, IP addresses, or cellular data. Weak signals, VPN usage, or limited connectivity can reduce accuracy.
- **Environmental conditions**: Physical surroundings such as buildings, indoor locations, or remote areas can interfere with GPS signals and affect accuracy.
3. You can click **Reset** to redraw the location.
The following image highlights draw options and insert circle radius field:
All contacts in the selected region get populated on the page.
6. To share, click one of the following radio buttons:
- **Only Creator**: Only the creator of this message can access this template.
- **All admins:** Share with all the admins in your organization. You can also select their permissions.
- Select **Groups or Channels or Individual Admins**: Share with the admins of your choice.
7. Click **Create**.
A confirmation message appears confirming the creation of the map region. You can click **Edit** on the **Map Regions** page to update the shape or sharing options.
