Create an Alert Channel

Overview

Alert Channels allow you to organize and monitor specific types of threat information within a dashboard. Each Alert Channel is displayed as a separate card in the Dashboard Workspace and shows alerts that match the channel’s configured settings, categories, sources, date range, and risk score.

You can configure Alert Channels to display different types of information depending on your monitoring requirements. For example, you can create separate channels for crime, health, hazards, or other categories of interest.

Each Alert Channel can be managed independently and can be connected to or removed from a dashboard without affecting other channels.

Create an Alert Channel

  1.  Open the dashboard where you want to create an Alert Channel.
  2.  On the Dashboard Workspace page, click the Settings (gear) icon next to the dashboard name.
  3. From the popup menu, click Manage Alert Channels.
The Add Alert Channel dialog is displayed.

The Alert Channel creation process consists of three steps:

Step 1: Channel Settings

  1. In the Channel Name field, enter a name for the Alert Channel.
  2. Unnder Channel Type, select one of the following:
    1. Alert Feed: Displays alerts based on category, source, and risk criteria. After selecting Alert Feed, click Select Category and select one or multiple categories and sub-categories for the alerts you want to monitor.
    2. Embed: Select this option to add one or more web pages that you want to display within the Alert Channel. After selecting this option, Embed URLs field is displayed below.
  3. From Add a Category or subcategory, select one or multiple categories and sub-categories for the alerts you want to monitor. This option is displayed only when Alert Feed is selected as the Channel Type

  4. In the Embed URLs field, enter the URL of the web page you want to embed. To include additional web pages, click + Add URL and enter another URL. Repeat this to add more URLs as needed.

The embedded web pages are displayed within the Alert Channel. When multiple URLs are configured, the channel can rotate through the embedded pages.

Note: This field is displayed only when Embed is selected as the Channel Type.

  5. Click Save & Next.

Step 2: Filter

Use the Filters step to further refine which alerts appear in the Alert Channel.

  1. Select the sources from which alerts should be displayed. The available sources are:
    1. Gov. Agency
    2. News
    3. Open Source
  2. Under Day Range, specify the number of previous days for which Threat Intelligence should retrieve alerts. The available range is from 1 to 30 days.
  3. Under Minimum Risk Score,  set the minimum risk score an alert must have to be displayed in the channel. The available range is from 0 to 10. Alerts with a risk score below the selected value are excluded.
  4. After configuring the filters, click Save & Next.

Step 3: Preview

The Preview step displays the alerts that match the categories and filters you configured.

Review the results to make sure the channel is displaying the type of threat information you want to monitor.

Click Done to complete the Alert Channel configuration. The new Alert Channel is now available for use on the dashboard.
